Ritha's thoughts: F1 season review 09

My season review of 2009!

Quote of the season:

“It’s right for me as a man to stand in front of you all and put my hands up. I can’t tell you how sorry I am. But I’m not a liar”. Hamilton about his mistake in the Australian GP. He mislead the stewards over how he come to finish 3rd. After that his relationship with the press, who had criticised him, wasn’t the best, but he knew he had been unfairly criticised because he had acted under instructions from the team.

 The scandal of the season:

News broke in the mid-season that Renault asked Nelson Piquet Jnr to crash at Singapore GP of 2008 to help his team-mate Fernando Alonso to win the race. As an excuse Flavio Briatore said that Piquet was so useless that he crashed all the time. In the end Renault pleaded guilty and Briatore and his no2 Pat Symonds were banned from the sport.
The crash of the season:

Unfortunately this one didn’t end so well but it could be worst. During the Qualifying for the GP of Hungary Felipe Massa suffered a crash that toke him off for the rest of the season.

The nearly man of the season:
Schumacher “almost” return to F1, after Massa’s accident the 1st name that come to everyone’s mind to replace him was Michael Schumacher. And Schumacher actually confirm his presence as Kimi’s new Team-mate for the 2sd part of the season but the medical exams didn’t let Michael’s return, it seems that the champion had an accident of motorbike and injured his neck! Some have suggested he bottled it, the true is that nobody know for sure if Schummy could keep up with the rest of the drivers on the grid after 3 years off!

The best moment of the season:
Spa-francorchamps, when Kimi Raikkonen scores the 1st victory of the season for Ferrari, the car was crap he starts from the position 6th on the grid and although he had the KERS he did a great job, great victory keeping Fisichella behind who had a very strong car!

The funniest moment of the season:
I got two, 1st Button on the GP of Monaco, he won the race and went to the Box pit where the drivers put theirs cars in the end of the race but in Monaco the 1st 3 drivers got to drive the car until the podium and as Button “wrong” the way he had to run until the podium, very funny though and to make it even more funny he bows twice in front of Prince Albert. That's what winning the Monaco GP does to the senses.
The other funniest moment was in Hungary after Massa’s accident the Qualifying continue but in the end no one knew who had the pole position and Fernando Alonso were asking to everyone for their lap times….

The best Race of the season:
Brazilian GP, Where everyone expected, after Barrichelo’s pole, the prolongation of the title’s decision for the last race, with lot’s of luck for Button and unlucky for Barrichello, Button did it, he grab the championship with 1 race left to the end!
The worst race of the season:
Valencia. Just scrap it, please. There is no overtaking, no atmosphere and no boats in the marina. Pathetic. Far from being the “Spanish Monaco”!

The best team of the season:
Brawn GP – It was the 1st in the Constructor standings with 18.5 points ahead of Red Bull, they surprise everyone in the beginning of the season they were one step forward in front of everyone so theirs nothing else to say, they are the champions and they deserve it!!!!

The worst team of the season:
Scuderia Ferrari – I feel bad for saying this but it’s true Ferrari had the worst car in the grid and we didn’t saw to many improvements during the season! And the way they threaded Kimi Raikkonen was very stupid and they let themselves buy for Santander and fired the fastest driver on the Grid to bring Alonso to their team.

The worst driver of the season:
“Look-How-Bad-You-Are” as the media called to Luca Badoer, I actually find him a nice guy but a nice guy doesn’t mean a good driver! Well I cannot call him a bad driver cause the car sucks, but, yeah, he was the worst driver of the season, but I don’t want let Badoer alone in this prize, Fisichella wasn’t better, He had a good car for the 2sd half of the season with Force India that he could reach good results as he did in Spa but he made a huge mistake when went to replace Badoer! But I understand every driver’s dream is drive for Ferrari.

The best driver of the season:

Well some says Button, some say Vettel, for me the bad asses of this season were Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen. If they had Button’s and Vettel’s car they could done the same or even better, but this two ex-World Champions had a tough 1sd half of the season and they manage to come back and score a few podiums. So Hamilton had 2 victories in Hungary and Singapore and he actually pull of a few pole positions! And Kimi Raikkonen he had the worst car of the grid during all season and he pulled of a great victory in Spa (The King of Spa) and scores a few podiums for Ferrari being the only driver to score points for the team, which was 4th in the Constructors championship, 1 point behind Mclaren! Without any doubt Raikkonen and Hamilton are the best drivers on the Grid!!

Gerrard: I was devastated by Alonso departure

This news broke my heart!!!

The former Real Sociedad midfielder - who has won 64 caps for Spain - did finally leave Liverpool this year, joining Karim Benzema, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo as part of Real's £200 million summer spending spree.
And Gerrard has confessed that seeing his midfield partner depart for pastures new was difficult to take.
"Devastated, yeah. Devastated. But there was nothing I could do about it," He said in the December issue of FourFourTwo magazine, out today.
"Xabi said a long time ago that he wanted another chapter in his career and finally he got it and his team-mates and the coaches couldn't stand in his way. We just have to say thanks and move forward without him."
"It's always going to be different when you lose one of the best players in the world - and people are finally realising that's what he is, on the back of his form for Real Madrid and the difference in us from last year," he said.
"We've got other midfielders here doing a good job but it will take a while before Alonso's out of our system because he was such a top player.
"Defensively, because of his intelligence at picking up his positions, he was so good at protecting the central defenders.
"And going forward, he was one of the best passers of the ball I've ever seen; someone who could create something out of nothing.
"He was sometimes underrated when he was here because of Torres, but when you play with him and without him you realise how much he meant to you, both as a player and the team as a whole."
The full feature-length interview with Gerrard can be read in the December issue of FourFourTwo magazine, out now.

There aren't many female celebrities who would risk their beauty in a boxing match. But reality TV star Kim Kardashian did just that when she pulled on her gloves for a charity bout yesterday, along with other members of her family.
The brunette, famous for her curves, swapped her heels for a pair of boots as she faced her opponent, who had made the highest bid in a charity auction.

Her creations have been seen on Jennifer Lopez, Elle Macpherson and Carol Vorderman, so it was only a matter of time before another celebrity succumbed to the lure of Victoria Beckham's dress collection.
Arriving at the Los Angeles premiere of her new film Everybody's Fine last night, Drew Barrymore looked stunning as she sashayed down the red carpet in one of Posh's dresses.
The 34-year-old showed off her curves in the £1,750 figure-hugging purple Giral dress - which has also been seen on Katherine Jenkins and Beckham herself - and a pair of vertiginous satin heels.

WAGs: Beck's family on Lakers game!!!

David Beckham has become quite the fan of basketball since moving Stateside - but is he interested in the game or the scantily-clad cheerleaders? Posh Spice is taking no chances and made sure she was sat right next to David throughout an LA Lakers game yesterday.
Victoria and David took sons Cruz and Romeo to the match, but all the boys seemed to be having much more fun than po-faced Posh.
